POST & PACKAGING POLICY

Every effort is made to use good recycled materials wherever possible, so as to ensure that the final packaging and postage costs are both realistic and kept to the minimum possible for buyers.

All items purchased will be carefully wrapped in ‘bubble wrap’ material and then well ‘cushioned’ in a strong cardboard box prior to posting out to the buyer. This method of packaging has been successfully used over the last 2 years by a model railway club, at which I have assisted with the distribution of their ebay sales.

Royal Mail ‘services’ is my preferred option for handling and delivering the packages, using their ‘Second Class Mail’ facility, which usually takes two or three days for packages to reach their destinations. A ‘Certificate of Posting’ is always obtained at the time of posting out, so as to be able to make a claim in the event of damage or loss in transit, for items up to £20 sales value. Where the total sales value exceeds £20 but not over £50, then the Royal Mail ‘Signed For’ service will be used, so as to ensure adequate compensation is available in the event of loss or damage in transit.

Royal Mail altered their postal rates for packages and parcels, with effect from 2 April 2013.

Small parcels can now measure up to 45cm x 35cm x 8cm with a maximum weight of 2kg.

Medium parcels can now measure up to 61cm x 46cm x 46cm with a maximum weight of 20kg.

As a guide, a single wagon would usually be a small parcel, and would cost £2.60 for 2nd Class Mail up to 1kg; to which £1.00 should be added to cover basic packaging costs, making a total of £3.60. If the sales value exceeds £20, then the extra cost for ‘Signed For’ service will add £1.10 to the postage, making a final total of £4.70.

For several wagons and/or coaches, then a medium parcel is likely to be necessary and would cost £5.20 for 2nd Class Mail up to 1kg, and £8.00 between 1kg and 2kg; to which £2.50 should be added to cover basic packaging costs. As the final sales value is likely to be between £20 and £50, then the ‘Signed For’ service will be used and add £1.10 to the postage. The final postage and packing charges would be £8.80 up to 1kg and £11.60 between 1kg and 2kg.

These prices are a guide and only applicable to British postal delivery addresses.  In the event of the final weight being over 2kg but under 5kg, then the postal charge will increase by £5.35.

If you reside outside of the United Kingdom, then please inform me of the final destination, and I shall be happy to quote for ‘posting out options’.

In the United Kingdom, if you are unhappy with the postage rate quoted, and would prefer a superior service, please let me know and I shall be happy to provide a quote for your decision.
